By the New Year, six apprentices will progress to become Peer Mentors. The Apprentice Team are starting to complete their Level Two NVQ as Customer Service Practitioners and are moving towards their Level Three in Advice and Guidance.

As apprentices they have spent months shadowing experienced members of the team, allowing them to gain their confidence and build independent caseloads.

The Peer Mentors will allow the Face Forward team to see and work with more clients and act as role models for the junior apprentices. They will work to build rapport, encourage and engage with young people across Dorset. Peer Mentors will also visit client’s homes, explore the barriers clients are facing and guide clients through short achievable goals that will empower them to make positive changes within their lives.

To gain their Level Two NVQ, the former apprentices had to complete various assignments, gather professional evidence, undertake an observation and complete a professional discussion and portfolio.

Marc, Face Forward Learning Coordinator, said: “seeing my team progress from being fresh faced with little confidence in their own abilities, to becoming young professionals is inspiring.

“Each team member has embraced their own journey through the NVQ to become more knowledgeable, skilful and confident to support our client’s needs.

“They are all positive role models for the apprenticeship framework and of course have grown to become incredible assets for the project.”

Josh, Peer Mentor, said: “I love seeing young people make positive changes to their lifestyle and supporting them to achieve goals that they may not have thought possible.

“This makes it very rewarding to be progressing to becoming a Peer Mentor, all the hard work has paid off.”

Face Forward has a peer to peer mentoring structure, which allows for young people to be allocated an apprentice to work alongside them and support them in their journey. This gives the young people someone who is of similar age and who they can relate to, to work with and support them through the process.
