Project Update

newsletterWe are now recruiting for November

As the first batch of Bourne Digital clients are now three-quarters of the way through their Online Confidence Building course, and September’s group just over a quarter of a way through theirs, we are now starting to look at October’s intake and planning for the November new cohort.

September’s highlights include an hour’s conversation and presentation around the subject of Online Security by Chris Conroy from the Dorset Cyber Crime Team, and some wonderful course feedback:

“This 1st lesson was fun without being too overwhelming. Going back to basics was exactly the right place to start for me.”

“The lesson today was about emails. I found the information about spam/junk emails very useful. I am also feeling more confident about adding attachments too.”

“I like the fact that I can just sit and listen if I want to. There is no pressure to join in.”

“Easy to follow, not too fast-paced.”

“I was unavailable for the lesson on Monday, so being able to access the recording was very useful.”

September also saw us welcome three new Digital Champions to the project, whose role is to help the clients on a 1:1 capacity in addition to the 12 lessons each participant receives. We also loaned out 4 MiFi (mobile data) devices, to help those who have no WIFI at home, a first for the Bourne Digital project!

Moving forward we have ordered more client kit including headsets, mice and MiFi devices, so we are fully stocked and ready and waiting for new clients to join in October and November.

If you’d like to refer a client to us, here is a recap of who we are looking for:

  • Live in Bournemouth (BH1-BH11)
  • Aged 19+ to 65
  • Unemployed, and looking for work or underemployed and have the right to live and work in the UK
  • Have no or exceptionally low digital skills and no digital device at home*.

*We can support clients who have low digital skills but do have a device, however, priority is given to those without a device.

If you know of anyone with no, or exceptionally low digital/computer skills and would like to join our course, you can contact us by calling 01202 677557 to arrange a call back. We look forward to hearing from you.

Before clients are accepted on the course, they will be asked to take part in a phone assessment, to gauge their suitability for the programme. Clients who do not meet the project criteria will be referred to a National Careers Service appointment or to one of our partners for further support.
