Only a few more places available for the final course

Welcome to the latest Bourne Digital news update. Firstly, we would like to announce due to popular demand, Bourne Digital will be running one extra programme in March, starting on Tuesday 16th March, which we are now recruiting for.  

If you would like to refer a client for the final course, you can do so by calling 01202 677557 to arrange a call back. To satisfy the need for this course we have purchased four additional laptops, and kit to go alongside them.  

Just to confirm, the 16th of March group will sadly be our last programme, as you are probably aware Bourne Digital closes its doors at the end of June 2021. However, please do keep an eye on the Bourne Digital website until then for alternative referral opportunities in the BCP area.   

On that note, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our partners including BCP Library Service, Skills & Learning, BCHA and Routes to Inclusion, and of course the many other services and individuals who have referred client to us.  

If infographics are your thing, we would like to point you in the direction of the first four groups feedback. You can view them here. Keep an eye out for more feedback over the coming months as the remaining groups finish their programmes.  

During the project, we have worked very closely with our Digital Champions. The Digital Champions provide our clients with an opportunity to have a virtual 1:1 each week to focus on whatever digital query they have e.g., review the topic for that week’s taught session, create a CV, apply for job/volunteer opportunities or use a train timetable online. They really do help us to give clients a personalised learning opportunity.   

In our first Digital Champion case study, we would like to introduce Mike - he tells us a little about himself, how he came to volunteer in the first place and what he has enjoyed (or not!) about helping in the Bourne Digital project. 

Jobhunting GuideIn other news, we have purchased a quantity of “Essential Guide to Job Hunting” handbooks. The handbooks cover topics such as CV templates, letters of application, interviews, interview questions, volunteering and much more. The handbooks will be given to students as they complete their programme, to help with job applications and related subjects. 

So, for one final time, here is a recap of who we are looking for:  

  • Lives in Bournemouth (BH1-BH11) - we can take clients from Poole and Christchurch if they meet all the other criteria and are willing to travel to Bournemouth Library for face-to-face appointments. There is a small amount of funding available to cover mileage, car parking and bus fares if needed.   
  • Aged 19 to 65 years 
  • Unemployed, and looking for work or underemployed and have the right to live and work in the UK.  
  • Have no or exceptionally low digital skills and no digital device at home*.  

*We can support clients who have low digital skills but do have a device, however, priority is given to those without.

Before clients are accepted on the course, they will be asked to take part in a phone assessment, to gauge their suitability for the programme. Clients who do not meet the project criteria will be referred to a National Careers Service appointment or to one of our partners for further support.
